Introduction to Internet Marketing

There are so many ways to promote your business online which has given birth to different types of online marketing. You will most likely find that online marketing can be time intensive, very frustrating, confusing yet an unavoidable part of having a website or online business. I will go through some of the different types of marketing that there is and in further posts I will give you ideas, tips and tricks to help grow your business from having little online traffic or leads to start providing good results.

Well let’s get started.
There are several different types of marketing which include: PPC (Pay Per Click), SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), Email Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Affiliate Marketing and Article Marketing.

Pay Per Click
Just as the name implies you pay for each click your advert receives. You first create and advert in for example Google Adwords, Yahoo or Bing. You then go about choosing what keywords you want to target for example if you are a Web Designer based in London you would target terms like Website Design London, Web Designer London and so on and lastly you set your price you are willing to pay per click and how much you are willing to spend per day. It can be daunting when you first start and you may not make much but with some research and plenty of time you could find this is a fast way to generate traffic and leads to your website if you have the money.

Search Engine Optimisation
This is the practise of changing your website or designing one from the ground up to be very accessible for search engines to index and rank your website. You would start by considering what business you’re in and what keywords you should target, again lets take a Web Designer in London as an example. That website would want to target terms like ‘Website Design London’ or ‘Cheap Website Design London’ so you would want to make sure you mention terms like that in your website however definitely not by over using the terms. You would make sure your images and logo have proper ALT tags and make sure that the text on your website is not flash or just one large image. I will do several follow up posts about SEO as it is a large subject.

Email Marketing
A great way to keep your customers returning would be to have a newsletter. When a customer has bought something you should ask them if they would like to receive a newsletter in future which will give you the opportunity to sell more products to them and keep them in touch with what your company are offering. There are many ways to increase the Open Rate and Click Through Rate (CTR) but I will leave that for its own blog post.

Social Media Marketing
In recent times this type of marketing has been expanding at a fast rate as more and more people turn to social media interactions like Facebook, Google’s +1 service and the likes of Twitter / LinkedIn. Having the tips and ability to tap into this market will provide your website with a great source of traffic and leads however if you over sell or spam social media websites you could be left with nothing but a bad reputation so tread carefully.

Affiliate Marketing
This is the practice of letting other people sell your products for a commission in the same way some Travel Agents sell hotels and flights on behalf of the Tour Operators or hotel owners. Having an affiliate program will also help build exposure for your brand and more people could potentially buy your products.

Article Marketing
If you are an expert in a certain field or you are very knowledgeable about your product or service then writing articles for popular article websites will help you gain credibility, links and possibly even links from social media websites and bookmarking websites. When writing an article for these types of websites you will have to be as impartial as possible however you can include your phone, website or contact details at the bottom which could bring in some traffic to your website and leave a great impression on future buyers.

Don’t worry if all this sounds a bit much in blog posts to come I will break each subject down into manageable tasks and you will be well on your way of increasing your website traffic.

If you like any of the posts I write then please share them with your friends or like them on your favourite Social Media Website!
