Pay Per Click Marketing

In my introductory post about Pay Per Click I touched on the basics of how PPC works in this article I will try to expand on what I have already said and give you a brief overview of the companies that offer PPC programs.

Pay Per Click is exactly what it sounds like you pay a certain amount for every click through to your website. This form of marketing is fairly easy to use and it can be a very quick way to get a lot of traffic to your website however the only downside to this is you actually have to constantly pay to get traffic to your website however if you are getting sales and making a profit then all is well.

Who offers PPC?

There are only a limited number of firms that have good Pay Per Click programs, below I will let you know what I think of them. The firms I have listed are massive companies which a large user base / large amount of traffic that goes through them. If I have missed any good PPC programs please leave a comment below!

Google – Adwords

The largest of the firms that have a Pay Per Click program is Google. Google gets millions of searchers looking for a wide range of products, services and information and I am sure you have used Google or at least have heard of them. When you do a search with Google there are “sponsored” results at the top of the page in the cream / yellow box and also on the right hand side that is where you will be advertising.

I would rate Google as one of the best PPC providers as they offer a decent service at a good price.

Yahoo!

It has been a while since I used the Yahoo PPC system and it now looks like they don’t offer a PPC program anymore but you can still advertise with them via Bing’s PPC program. This was most likely an effort to try to capture more advertisers from Google’s massive advertiser’s base.

I never did like advertising with Yahoo as the service wasn’t great, the website was slow and most importantly they lacked the traffic (as a stand alone PPC provider).

Bing – AdCenter

I must admit Bing’s program is not as good as Google’s however it does provide a good alternative to Google. Now that you are able to advertise both on Bing (Microsoft Search / Live Search etc) and the Yahoo! Search at the same time there are some good pricing / deals to be found if you work hard at your adverts.

Facebook

Facebook is a newish arrival in the online advertising market at the time of writing it has over 750 million active users in fact it was reported by Hitwise that Facebook’s overall web traffic pulled ahead of Google’s for the first time in the U.S. in March of this year. That is for the US but here in the UK it can’t be too far off now. Facebook does seem to me that it would be best for brand exposure rather than selling products however that could change when they start targeting ads to users likes, comments and interests.

I have not used Facebook’s advertising system but I think it does look promising.

In my next post I will go over tips and tricks to get the most out of your Pay Per Click campaigns and try and save you money as well as generate more sales.
